Damian Gallegos

Hi, I’m Damian Gallegos
I’m a PhD student in Computer Science researching machine learning, with a focus on Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs). I’m interested in building models that are both accurate and interpretable, and in understanding how new network architectures can improve on standard approaches.

Education
- Ph.D. in Computer Science (in progress) — University of Texas at El Paso
- M.S. in Data and Information Science — University of Texas at El Paso
- B.S. in Materials Engineering — Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez
Research Interests
My research is in machine learning, with a primary focus on Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) — a neural network architecture that replaces fixed activation functions on nodes with learnable activation functions on edges. I’m interested in:
- How KANs compare to traditional multilayer perceptrons in accuracy and interpretability
- Efficient training and scaling of KAN-based models
- Applications of KANs to real-world prediction and forecasting problems
Skills & Tools
Machine Learning
- ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
